Suggestions Please

My Dear sister went to a yard sale and brought me this great magazine rack. I like it and the shabby look to it is great.

I don't really have any place to put it. My bedroom is the shabby place but no way will it fit. I could put it in the living room but the living room is very primitive.

So do I want to paint it? Do I keep it? It would be great to have a place for my magazines. Do I keep it and leave it shabby? The pictures of it were made in the bedroom. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
THANKS!!
Hugs,Lisa

  1. You could just use it as a catch-all basket by your bed so that you could keep in your bedroom...but if it must go in the living room, it would look nice black!

  2. What's your bathroom like? You could put it in there and roll towels then place them in it. Or do you have somewhere outside you could place it and put flowers and a plant in it? It's cute I like it. Have sweet dreams tonight!

  4. Okay, I have the answer...send it to me...hehehe!! Cute magazine rack. If you want it in your livingroom, you could always spray paint it to match...cuz it can always be painted again, right?

  5. It looks lovely - quite a dilemma, I've got a magazine rack that I keep beside my chair in the lounge, but it is not as nice as yours.

Nothing like a smiling teenager is there? Quite a feat! First time all day, but then he loves the country and the seaside just like his mum.

  6. I love it just how it is too, and if you wanted to actually use it as a magazine rack, it looks like it could easily hang on the wall if you have no space left in the bedroom.
and I'm so glad to hear someone else decorates room to room individually like me. (I thought I was the only one.) Let us know what you do with your wonderful magazine rack. The possibilities are endless. I just turned what I "think" was a spice rack into a towel bar. ;)

  7. You know if you painted it black or to look rusty it could maybe fit in your primitive living room better. It would still have swirlies but it wouldn't stick out so much. Great blog. I have really enjoyed stopping by.

  8. Oh how funny, Lisa! I got a wicker magazine rack while garage sailing too and I've been having the same sort of questions about mine! I would leave yours as it is and leave it in your bedroom- room for it or not! ☺ ♥

rack, I would leave it as it is and have it beside the bed. If you're anything like me then thee will always be a pile of magazines and books beside the bed.

  10. How about in a bathroom with towels in it? Or in the kitchen with vintage tablecloths? Oh, and I've become a glass freak this past year myself. Problem is, when you order online sometimes you end up getting stuff broken...

  12. I would hang it in some studs on the wall and add some "s" hooks and hang things off of the basket. You could also have it on a wall and twist some grapevine, add some dried flowers and a bird nest, with little robin eggs --of course, have a Momma bird perched on the handle looking at her nest.

  13. i had just logged off when i saw your thumbnail and had to sign back on real quick!

you have received lots of awesome ideas. it is a great piece. if you love it as-is use it in your bedroom but if it's not the color you love, spray paint it and it can go anywhere. maybe think about where you keep your magazines, like, if they are kept in the kitchen, you could spray paint it green or red? keep us posted!

okay, i am signing off! LOL

  15. Lisa,
I don't know what anyone else said, but here goes.
When you said it did not fit in the bedroom, do you mean there is no room for it? Or it does not fit the style?

If it fits the style how about setting it under the edge of a table? Or in some little nook?

Maybe even just make a little corner in another room with a couple of things that would go with it and make a little vignette with it?

Or, put it up on a desk or night stand? Put your magazines in it, but put a flower arrangement in it too.

hope you figure out what will work.
I always love that you come by.

    blessings friend.
    barbara jean.

PS if it needs to be toned down, just drape a little floral shabby fabric over one edge of it.

  16. That magazine rack really stirred up some memories for me! Wow, I grew up with one that looked almost like that except it was gold and the rods on it weren't twisted like that, but otherwise, it's the same. I don't have any suggestions for what you can do with it, but it sure is wonderful to see the pictures of it!

  17. You could paint it silver. Or gold. That simple action would create a new item out of it, making it a conversation piece. Not to mention it will look very expensive. :)
